Paradise Springs, Central Florida - First Dive of the New Millenium
Monday 01 January 2001
A few pictures of the entrance to the spring; from here, a cavern descends at about
45° to a depth of 90 ft.; a cave continues from there down to 140', but we were
afeared to enter therein, for there be dragons, foul mud monsters, and aqueous
awfulness - and we be not qualified for such perilous Cave Diving, as it may be...
I would suggest taking that with a pinch of salt, but this is a freshwater spring.
Anyway, these are just surface pictures - I will see if I can get some copies of the
underwater snaps. For a spring, it is an unusually impressive dive site with an
abundance of fossils easily visible, and lovely pastoral setting on the
surface; it was below freezing in the morning, but the spring water is 72° -
you can see the steam rising in the first picture.
